Lukashenka Alone Sitting In Kennel Near 'Russia' House

The rest have scattered.

Serbia is stepping into Europe. In a sense, Serbia is a ‘litmus test’ for assessing the course of the Russian authorities.

Against the backdrop of their anti-European rhetoric, it is interesting to see a fresh statement by Serbian President Vucic: ‘I have the utmost respect for BRICS, but Serbia is on the European path, and Serbia will remain on it’.

It is not about the country's new practical steps and advancement to the EU (Serbia has had candidate status since 2012), but about the confirmed direction of travel.

If the course of the Russian authorities during Putin's quarter of a century has been so successful, why does Serbia not seek to take advantage of the benefits of membership in the EAEU and CSTO? Why does its leadership confirm the European vector?

The answer is one. The European model is attractive, as is EU membership, while what has been created in and around Russia is not. It is not an alternative to Europe for Serbia.

Nothing has been built for a quarter of a century that could attract anyone. Lukashenka alone is sitting on a chain in a kennel outside the ‘Russia’ house, gnawing a bone, and sometimes demanding more.
