Polish Judge Flees To Belarus Asking For ‘Political Asylum’

He is involved in a scandal in his homeland.

The judge of the regional administrative court in Warsaw, Tomasz Schmidt, applied for political asylum in Belarus. He announced this at a press conference in Belarus, writes onet.pl.

In Poland, Tomasz Schmidt worked in the Voivodeship Administrative Court of Warsaw, headed the legal department at the National Board of Judges of Poland, and held other positions in the Polish judicial system and justice authorities.

At home, Tomasz Schmidt became involved in a “hater scandal.”

It began with the fact that a certain woman under the pseudonym “Emie” (or “Little Emie”) wrote posts and sent letters on social media for several months attacking judges who, in turn, opposed judicial reform in the country.

Subsequently, “Emie” claimed that she had received ready-made incriminating evidence regarding the judges from the Polish Ministry of Justice; some of the documents were also supposed to be handed over to journalists of pro-government media for publication in the press. Polish investigators concluded that this was part of a campaign planned by the authorities to discredit lawyers who opposed the reform.

As it turns out, the real name of “Emie” is Emilia Schmidt, and she was married to Tomasz Schmidt. The woman claimed that her husband was one of those who dragged her into a “hater scandal.” It was he who provided her with the information that she was supposed to spread.

After the story became public, Tomasz Schmidt also spoke publicly about his relationship with Emilia, blaming her for the breakdown of the marriage and describing his ex-wife as a cheater and an alcoholic.

After the scandal, Schmidt was expelled from the National Board of Judges of Poland and temporarily suspended from serving in the Voivodeship Administrative Court of Warsaw, proceedings have already begun.
